Privacy Policy
myBGShelf ("the app", "we") helps you manage your board game collection and record the games you play. We built it so that your information stays with you. This policy explains what the app handles, where it goes, and the choices you have.
The short version
- No account. You never sign up or sign in, and we don't ask for your name, email or phone number.
- Your data stays on your device. Your library, plays, scores and player names are stored only on your device. We don't have a copy.
- No ads, analytics or tracking. The app contains no advertising, analytics or tracking code and doesn't use advertising identifiers.
- No selling or sharing. We don't sell or share your data with anyone.
Information stored on your device
The app keeps the following in its private storage on your device:
- The games in your library, and their details from BoardGameGeek (name, cover image, designer, publisher, playing time, complexity).
- The plays you log: date, game, mode, duration, notes, expansions used, and the names, roles, scores and ranks of the players you enter.
- Your settings, such as your chosen theme.
Player names are whatever you type in. They could be real names or nicknames, and they're only stored on your device. This information never leaves your device unless you choose to share or back it up (see below).
Information sent over the internet
The app only uses the internet for BoardGameGeek features:
| When you… | What is sent | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Search for a game, add a game, or log a play with expansions | Your search text or the BoardGameGeek game IDs | Our BoardGameGeek proxy (hosted on Cloudflare), which forwards the request to BoardGameGeek and returns the result |
| Import your BoardGameGeek collection | The BoardGameGeek username you enter | |
| The app downloads cover images | A request for the image | BoardGameGeek's image servers |
Like any internet request, these include your device's IP address. Our proxy doesn't store the requests or IP addresses passing through it. Cloudflare, which hosts the proxy, and BoardGameGeek process them under their own privacy policies: Cloudflare, BoardGameGeek. No other personal information is sent. Your library, plays and player names are never sent over the internet by the app.
Backups, exports and sharing
You can back up your library, export spreadsheets (CSV) or share summary images. The app creates these files on your device and opens your device's share menu. You choose where they go, for example Google Drive, email or a messaging app. From then on, that service's privacy policy applies. We don't receive a copy.
Backup files contain your whole library, including the player names you've entered, so keep them somewhere you trust.
Device backup (Android): if backup is turned on for your Android device, Android may include the app's data in your device backup, stored in your Google account, so your library can come back on a new phone. Google manages this, not us, and you can turn it off in your device's backup settings.
Permissions
The app uses internet access for the BoardGameGeek features above. It doesn't access your contacts, location, camera, microphone, or other apps' data. When you restore a backup, you pick the file yourself using your device's file picker, and the app only reads that file.
Deleting your data
- In the app, Settings → Delete All Games removes your whole library and play history, and Reset All Statistics removes your play history.
- Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored on your device.
- Backup or export files you've shared elsewhere aren't affected. Delete them where you saved them.
Because we don't hold any of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
Children
The app isn't directed at children under 13, and it doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If the app starts handling data differently, we'll update this page and the effective date above before the change is released.
